STOP DELISTING OF WOLVES IN GREAT LAKES REGION!
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has made
a proposal to get Wolves delisted from the Endangered
Species Act in the Great Lakes region (Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin).
The proposal is going to have a comment period
of 90 days, ending on June 26, 2006.
This proposal is going to delist only this
population and not those in the Rocky Mountains,
those in the Southwestern United States or
Red Wolves in the Southeastern United States.
This proposal must be opposed. Why? Here are
the reasons below.
1) If Wolves in the Great Lakes Region are
delisted, critical habitat for Wolves will
be removed.
2) The USFWS considers the Wolves in the
Great Lakes Region to be biologically recovered.
They also consider them to be recovered
in the rest of the United States. Wolves aren't recoverd.
If their habitat is removed if this delisting
goes through, how are they expected to
propogate and live?
3) Wolves are going to be turned over to
state management. This will be disasterous as well.
3a) In Minnesota, protection of Wolves will be split into two
zones, A and B. In A Wolves will be protected as vigorous
as the ESA protected them. In Zone B, it will be like
it is now with Wolves in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.
In otherwords, it was bad enough that Wolves are murdered in livestock issues,
but they can be murdered even when a depredation hasn't happened.
3b) Wisconsin although will be paying compensation
for depredation losses will be able to murder more Wolves.
Considering that Adrian Wydeven, notorious murderer
of the Department of Natural Resources resides in Wisconsin,
it is clear that he will have a field day with this.
Also, if Wolves exceed 350 Wolves, Wisconsin will start
culling. Currently there are 4 zones which two involved limited
murdering of Wolves, and some parts where it isn't done on public land.
3c) Michigan DNR plans to allow the murder of Wolves
in livestock issues and make it only done by Michigan
DNR Personnel. A plan for their management is in the works
and they are already pandering to interest groups.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
It means if Wolves are delisted, more are going to die
in the Great Lakes Region. They already have been
murdered for years in Wisconsin. Wolves will be oppressed
and monitored by humans to the point to where they
cannot be truly themselves anymore.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
There are many things one can do on this. Residents
in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin need to bring media
exposure to this issue and why delisting should not happen
through writing to your newspapers, contacting the local
and state medias, through radio ads or news stations on
TV.
This also goes for non-residents of these states.
Exposure on this issue around the world can help save
these Wolves!
Those who can attend the meetings about the delisting of
Wolves need to go to these meetings at the dates and
locations below:
May 8th: Dultuh, Minnesota
May 10th: Wausau, Wisconsin
May 16th: Marquette, Michigan
May 17th: Grayling, Michigan
You also need to submit comments on this issue to the Fish
and Wildlife Service's plan to delist the Wolves!
MAIN POINTS TO USE:
1) Wolves shouldn't be delisted. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service considers them recovered in the rest of the United
States despite Wolves only occupying on 15% of their original
territory in the U.S. If Wolves aren't obviously recovered in
the U.S., what makes this proposal just as accurate?
The Wolves were also not fully protected under the Endangered Species Act,
since in Wisconsin Wolves were slaughtered instead of protected in livestock issues.
Which in the states of Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, more Wolves
are going to be slaughtered since the tools on non-lethal
methods only and Predator Friendly Ranching Practices will
be ignored.
If non-lethal methods and Predator Friendly Ranching were used,
promoted and made law, this wouldn't be an issue. Proof is
right here: http://www.heartofthewolf.org/source.html
Scientific proof is listed here as well as the results of murdering
Wolves in livestock issues. That result being that it does nothing.
Only non-lethal methods work and only through peaceful co-existence
with Wolves can things change.
2) Wisconsin plans to use culling if this plan goes through
and Wolves exceed population numbers which is 350. Culling is highly
unethical and shouldn't be done. Wolves can maintain their
own numbers. Humans consider themselves to watch the numbers
of wild animals when they continue to breed and over populate.
This is just like Alaska where Wolves have been culled for
the last decade. One should also keep in mind, how are the Wolves
going to survive if they can't propogate on their own and the human
population of Wisconsin is approximately 5,536,201 (Source: U.S. Census
Bureau, 2005 Population Estimates), and growing?
3) If Wolves are going to be murdered rather than humans co-existing
peacefully with them, they should not be delisted in the Great Lakes Area.
Wolves are a maligned race and will be until Humans can truly live in peace
with them. Wolves need to be always protected. Just as humans are protected
from harm under their laws, so should Wolves since humans can't learn to peacefully
co-exist with them. The ultimate proof is these new management plans that have
been devised by the Great Lakes States to murder Wolves in livestock issues.
