| Heart of the Wolf Organization News 2/11/2010 HEART OF THE WOLF ORGANIZATION ANTI-WOLF MEDIA 2/11/2010 Two magazines in the past month have been released that have been anti-wolf, and there is nothing good about it obviously. An article written for the publication Predator Xtreme called Wolves Win 2009 Season, by Judd Cooney. He is a dangerous man who wages war against predators. http://www.grandviewoutdoors.com/PageContent.aspx?ID=17 He runs Iowa Trophy Whitetail Outfitters and has been a threat to many species of nature over the years. http://www.bowhuntershalloffame.com/members/cooneyjudd/in dex.html judd@juddcooney.com http://www.juddcooney.com/whitetails.htm In this article he like many hunters, attacks wolves and those who want a future of peace between humans and wolves in his article. He thinks that the wolves there decimate the elk in Montana, calling it a Mecca before wolves were re-introduced. Judd tries to make a lopsided argument that alot of hunters use, that the wolves re-introduced from Canada are larger than the original prairie wolves. And that this has led to a huge slaughter of elk. Which of course is false. Judd isn't a scientist, and we can tell you that if there was any scientific proof of that, it would have been released by now. Besides, wolves aren't stupid. They wouldn't annihilate all of their food base. No predator in nature does. That's because the predator populations of species in nature are smaller than prey so that this isn't an issue. The 'writers' lack of education or ettiquite when writing shows it self as he refers to those who fight for the peace between humans and wolves as: wolf-loving environmentalists, wolf lovin' do gooders. It's kind of bizarre because he says that the USFWS, as well as Judge Molloy sided with environmentalists to try and prevent the destruction of wolves in hunts when conservationists did lawsuits. Um, how is that? Wolves have been slaughtered by federal and state agencies for years. The USFWS has constantly been fighting to delist wolves for years, and still is. And vows to fight any attempts to relist wolves, for that matter. He throws statistics around of how many elk are killed a year by wolves, but doesn't offer the sources of that or for that matter how many elk hunters murder a year. Wolves also aren't great hunters by themselves without a pack, contrary to Judd's assertions. Judd tells a story on how he interviewed Robert Millage of Kamiah, Idaho, who murdered the first wolf in this current wolf hunt in Idaho. Millage claims the wolves were spookier than he heard about. Maybe it's because that Millage buys into wolves being scary and evil, when they are not, which is why they both don't mind the fact that wolves are being shot to death. He also gets his 'facts' from his hunting pals, which again, they aren't scientists, or biologists, or those who even know about wolves at all. So it's not information that is reliable. The rest of the article is his junk statistics as he, as typical hunters do, illustrates their propaganda campaign of utilitarians who are crying an elk extinction apocalypse where as Judd says 'and the once healthy big-game populations are going to continue ending up as wolf crap.' Not to mention he falsely claims livestock issues will be more and more. Well if non-lethal methods and PF Ranching would be used that wouldn't be a problem. And lastly he says that the end of hunting is our goal. Yeah, I would like that. Peace is what we want. Not murder and mayhem. That's not how you bond with nature. If we did this on people, it would be considered unethical on the highest order. Until we respect animals like ourselves, how can we live? NOTE: Also it should be mentioned that Judd references to keep an eye on this issue at pinedaleonline.com/wolf Cat Urbigkit who is a reporter for this site years ago, attacked us under false pretenses for saying we didn't care about humanity, and her book Yellowstone Wolves: A Chronicle of the Animal, the People, and the Politics didn't do much favor for the wolves at all. We went through quite a bit of passages in it, to say the least. We aren't sure if they know each other, but either way ranchers who don't like wolves (there are those who do but are overshadowed...) and hunters are bedfellows... 2) The second article comes from the magazine, north american Whitetail. The article is called Are There Too Many Predators Part 2, by 'Dr.' (as in Dr. Death) James C. Kroll. James C. Kroll (jck@fri.sfasu.edu), is obviously a hunter, and that interest leads to his bias, despite being a major force in Deer Management. There is that theme of control and wanting to control species, rather than living with it. And if you can't live with it under your thumb, you want it dead. As in the case of Kroll or...Dr. Death. Alot of the information is the same old false arguments as normal brought about by hunters. Doesn't matter if you have the classification of biologist thrown on your title. Even some biologists are wrong with their facts, such as David Mech, Doug Smith, and those in the USFWS and state agencies who support wolf slaughter for the idea of co-existence with the wolf. He thinks that the populations are exploding with the bear, mountain lion, and wolf populations. If anything, one should fear the explosion of the human population. It's supposed to be 7 billion by 2011. http://www.earthsky.org/blogpost/human-world/web-chat-on-thu rsday-on-world-population-7-billion-on-the-horizon Right...and this is from a 'biologist' who in the first part of his article 'claims' that there is no balance in nature?! http://www.northamericanwhitetail.com/deermanagement/NAW _predators_0110/index.html And he wants to totally subdue and dominate nature and destroy it at any cost! Yet there is actually no balance with people. Nature as we already stated has predators with less of a population. The prey population is more numerous so they don't starve. To no surprise that hasn't happened yet. Maybe it's something called the food web, http://www.vtaide.com/png/foodchains.htm which is the basics of biology. It's just the hunting industry bought and sold this dr. with blood money... He is so scared of biologists that love to take the lives of animals are being 'pushed' out by who he thinks solely learn about animals by watching Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel and think that hunters are evil. FYI Dr. Death, the Discovery Channel rarely shows nature shows. Mostly lame reality shows and Mythbusters. As far as Animal Planet, well it occasionally airs programs that make animals look bad and perpetuate false fears. One would know this by watching these stations like we do for source material. And hunting is unethical. You get sadistic joy out of the slaughter of animals from nature. Nature kills because it has to. People do it for fun. People like Dr. want to control nature through oppression, fear, propaganda and destruction. If we did that to people it would be considered horrible, and it has happened many times in history. It's just when it comes to animals people don't mind passing the buck because it isn't human. He claims to not hate predators or not want them exterminated, but his first article indicates otherwise. He is nothing but a utilitarian who wants control of nature for human purpose, and that's it. Forget he thinks the blood spilled and the horror in a misguided view of the returning to a balance that wouldn't exist. We must have peace between humans and non-humans. If we do not, this world will be ripped apart, and nothing will survive. Or as one quote eloquently stated which applies those who fear and hate nature is this: "Our truest sense of security comes only when we have learned to live in harmony with others." -- Steven D. Farmer, Ph.D. In otherwords, they will only learn security when they choose to live with nature, rather than blasting it with guns and cruelly oppressing nature and it's denizens.
