Here is some updated news as of late regarding Wolf-Dogs from email- lists we are on.
OK-BONDED PAIR WOLFDOGS NEED NEW HOME DUE TO JOB LOSS
Hunter and Cherokee we have had them since they were 4 weeks old, (HUNTER) IS A MALE AND IS 5 years OLD, (CHEROKEE)IS 4 YEARS OLD AND THE HAVE NEVER BEEN APART.
Hunter has broken canines due to attacking the fence (chainlink) apparently thinking the male next door wants to get to Cherokee.
They both are big love bugs with their owners. An evaluation will be done in the next few days as to their reactions to strangers. They are not housedogs. Strong containment will be required.
She has never been in the house, but she will ride in the back of the truck without a crate. She has been walked on a leash, but she has so much energy that she likes to drag you at first.
According to the owners, he goes for daily walks with 4 other dogs, and lives with 2 doxies and 8 cats. The wife is disabled and the husband has suffered a mild stroke and it doesn't look good for his future. Bart is very protective of them since this has happened and will not allow anyone to help him if he should suffer another stroke. He fears animal control or police would shoot him to help him.
He stays in a 4' fence (this is not to be expected when he is rehomed). He has never been crated. He is just over 3 yrs old.
He does guard his things to the point of correction so he will need some experience handling.

EVALUATION BY A RESCUER:
Bart is a big lovable overgrown puppy. In the face he does look wolfy, but with the dew claws, and when the one time he curled that tail up over his back..... Mr. Tanner said at the vet last visit he weighed in at 105 lbs. but has gained some weight. I believe he probably does. he is BIG! He is an inside dog definitely. Everytime he goes out and pees or poops he gets a treat when he comes back in. He's smart. He will go out and pee, come in for his treat, then want back out to poop so he will get another treat. He sits for his treats, will give you a high five. So he has done some obedience training, but he is allowed on any of the furniture and doesn't always mind when told to GET DOWN the 1st time, or stop immediately when playing when told to stop. I think he is a really smart animal. Just obedience has not always been enforced strictly all the time. He knows his boundaries. A small gate in to the kitchen isn't even as high as his back but he doesn't even attempt to challenge it. HE seems to leave food and drinks alone. As soon as he realized it was OK for us to be in the house he was fine with us. He immediately wanted to crawl over our backs to assert dominance, but I didn't allow it and he accepted it readily after the 2nd failed attempt. He had a gentle mouth when playing with me, he loves to mouth your hand and arm. Mr. Tanner said he does play rough with him at times, but when I told him easy when he got a little rough, and froze and refused to play any more he immediately stopped and seemed to understand he was getting a little rough and then went back to being very gentle. He said he is aggressive towards the vet who had hurt him previously, but with another vet he did OK, although was very scared and trembling and he would have guaranteed how he would have done with him before the visit, He had also given him a tranquilizer before the visit. He has never been chained or contained in a small space, he gets very nervous in small tight places. He is taking him out in the back of a SUV more and more to get him used to it, but he has never been crated. (I haven't seen a crate so far that is big enough to hold him) When walking him he keeps him on a short leash, just in case they meet another dog that he doesn't like. but he said that is not usually the case. He loves the snow and takes him out on a long leash to play and wrestle with him He eats out of the same bowl as 2 other smaller dogs, but will become food agressive if anything special is put in the dish. He is territorial in the house and will lung up if the other dogs or cats come to close. but we didn't see any attempt at any follow through with the threat. He said he did bite one of the other smaller dogs the other day when it stole his toy and had to take him to the vet. He had a small puncture wound in his neck. NO ONE will come into the house uninvited!!!! He is very protective of his family.
Bart came into this house as a puppy and all the other animals were in place already. I'm just not real sure how he would be taken into another house with dogs and cats???? It could be an iffy situation.
Bart is a big over grown baby, that needs lots of love and attention, but needs to be with someone that knows how to show a gentle but firm hand to discipline him and be free with the rewards. Instead of discipline I think he has been trained with rewards for good behavior, and ignored the bad, if you know what I mean.
The owner said he would love pics of Bart in his new home and an update on him now and then, but would never visit him in his new home as it would be to disruptive for Bart. and he doesn't think he could stand it anyway. He loves Bart, as well as the other animals as is obvious by the play structures he has built for them all. And he has done everything possible for their safety and comfort.
SC- HUSKY GIRL- AMAZING GRACE needs your help! PLZ REPOST
Some of you may already know that Huskies R Us is in distress, as a lot of rescues are right now. I believe that is it is pretty scary out there for everyone. We are unable to accept any more pets in at the time. Most of that know me know that I don’t like having to ask for donations and will only do so in a dire situation. This is such, Gracie needs your help. Please, if you can, help us to help her- she deserves it
Gracie is a long haired blue eyed Siberian Husky that came to us from a local shelter a few short days ago. She is low heart worm positive but she's getting treatment for that now. The first morning that Gracie was with us she began to scream in pain and laying down and not wanting to move. Out of the three days Gracie has been with us she has been in the hospital two of those days. Right now her bill is over $300 and is going to get worse. (Hospitalization, x-rays, medication, etc). She needs additional testing to find the exact cause of the pain and the bloody diarrhea. Hip dysphasia has been ruled out- the pain is coming from the spine area
Poor Gracie had been in the shelter since January 21st of this year. I brought her home on March 31. Because we are in such a financially distressing time I went to shelter to pull just one, but after I got there I couldn't leave Gracie. Gracie is a somewhat unusual Husky, she showed no interest in the cats, (even when they ran) or even at the ferret! She is calm and very laid back
Before we can adopt sweet Gracie out we need to know what is wrong with this poor girl and get her medically sound. Of course our vet is trying a few things now, BUT we need some additional testing and with no more funds and a growing vet bill.. I am hoping some of you are in a position to help. She is worth it
Gracie's doctor is Dr. Kathy Jordan at Crossroads Animal Hospital and she will be accepting debit/credit card payments for anyone that wants to donate that way, her information will be listed below. We also have paypal if you want to use that
NOW for the sweet part.. Spring is here- and we have 12 hand crafted ladies handbags... these are brand new, sewn with love by a great southern lady -and to everyone that makes a donation to Gracie for $20 or more (paypal or to Vet) will receive one.. postage is on me.
SC - GORGEOUS WOOFER BOY NEEDS A HOME - PLZ REPOST
From the foster mom:
Taj greeted us like long lost friends. We remained at the shelter over an hour, in which time he met with another pup being released, a rottweiler, Taj was friendly until the other dog showed aggression then he kinda bucked up..(only low growl, no showing of teeth) but only in defense. He does not do well with small and furry. There was a ferret in the office and he wasn't happy about it, but again, he laid down when told to and the ferret was within 2 feet of him.
On the way home we made several stops. One was to get a biscuit and tea. We pulled into a parking lot got him out gave him water.. and to let him walk while we had breakfast/lunch. He LOVES biscuits! He will sit, give a BIG paw.. and "speak" for his treats which he takes gently from your hand.
Back in the car.. got him home... we will see how he gets along with others soon. I've seen no signs of aggression in him at all. I have rubbed my hands all over him, tugged on his ears and his tail.. looked at his teeth.. and placed my hand in his mouth with food on it.
