ANOTHER FILM THAT MAKES WOLVES LOOK BAD -- LADY IN THE WATER

Originally written in July of 2006

A slew of movies has come out recently over
the past year that has made Wolves look bad.

Chronicles of Narnia, the film based on the books
by C.S. Lewis, had Wolves as enemies of the main protagonists.
In the books the Wolves are killed by the protagonists.
And a weapon is crafted after they kill them.
And in the game for the movie you murder Wolves as a part of
the game. And the scandal behind the Wolves being used in that
film is well documented (http://www.heartofthewolf.org/Narnia.htm).

A scandal about how a Wolf-Hybrid by the name of Maverick was shipped
from Black Mountain's Full Moon Farm to Gentle Jungle
(a place well known for animal abuse) to
be used in the film. Black Mountain even made a press
appearance to downplay the negative portrayal of Wolves
in the film by saying that this would 'educate' the public
about what Wolves truly are. The only thing that happened
was Wolves once again being portrayed as evil monsters.

Cry Wolf, the horror film from 2005, is a horror
film that took inspiration from the story, 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'.
A story where a boy was supposed to watch the sheep and
cried Wolf a whole bunch of times to later be killed
by the Wolf. A story which of course was rooted in
fear and hatred of Wolves and ignoring what Wolves
really are. This film had to do with a group of
college students where they make a game which made it seem like someone
was murdred and more occur on campus. Well someone gets the idea to actually
take their game seriously and start murdering people and
that guy is, 'The Wolf'.

Cry Wolf is movie that takes from a tale that inspired
hatred and the murdering of Wolves. This is one of
many movies that furthers the demonization of Wolves.

Now we get to see another one hit the theaters
by the 'genius' M. Night
Shyamalan, called Lady in the Water.

This film in one of the trailers has Wolves stalking
the protagonists and even has a little girl
saying 'Whose afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?'.

From what M. Night Shyamalan has stated, this
is a movie based on a tale he told his children.
Fairy tales that include demonizing Wolves and making
them monsters.

As most know, fairy tales included the stories
Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood.
Three Little Pigs in particular had that quote about 'Who is afraid of
the Big Bad Wolf?'

It seems nowadays that ideas in American Cinema
have dried up (save for films like X-Men 3: The Last Stand,
V for Vendetta, and An Inconvenient Truth) and this film resorts to falling back
on fairy tales that caused the deaths of many Wolves
in the past and continue to inspire fear and hate of Wolves.

In fact it is getting pretty bad of Hollywood to continue
to make movies that portray Wolves in a bad light.
Hopefully in the future this will cease. Until then
I highly recommending not seeing this movie, and if some people
out there do see it inspite of this article, don't bring
the kids along. We don't need future people hating Wolves.

Instead of seeing this film, there are great films that portray Wolves
in a more real manner and there are films and shows that
are fiction that offer a better perspective on Wolves.
Living With Wolves, Wolves at our Door, Arashi No Yoruni,
Wolf's Rain, Princess Mononoke, Never Cry Wolf, Balto,
are all good films and shows to watch.
