Wolf Murderers in the Past: Carter Niemeyer

Carter Niemeyer, the Wolf Murderer Retires by Mike Wagner

'As long as people will shed the blood of innocent creatures there can be no peace, no liberty, no harmony between people. Slaughter and justice cannot dwell together.' --Isaac Bashevis Singer

Carter Niemeyer the Wolf Murderer will retire on January 2, 2006. Carter Niemeyer
was the Idaho 'Wolf Recovery' coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. If anything, he didn't bring recovery,
but murder, mayhem, and no resolution to the conflict of humans unable to live with Wolves peacefully.

Carter Niemeyer started his reign of terror in 2000 when he became the Idaho
'Wolf Recovery' coordinator.

He was involved with the reintroduction of Wolves inititally in Yellowstone. However
it wasn't too long until Niemeyer developed a penchant for the murder of Wolves.
This started with the murder of the Whitehawk Pack. A slaughter that outraged
many across the world.

It was also the time that many traitors to the Wolf cause followed him. Such men as Ralph
Maughan, founder of For Wolves.org who supported Carter Niemeyer's murderous methods
in addition to supporting Curt Mack and the rest of the USFWS.

Over many years, Carter Niemeyer would murder many Wolves instead of getting
Humans to live with Wolves peacefully. His exploits would be on par with Adrian Wydeven of the
Wisconsin DNR and Gov. Frank Murkowski of Alaska. Here is his 'exploits' from 2004-2005 to give
an idea as to the number of Wolves he wanted to murder and did murder.

He at one point even called murdering Wolves, "reasonable".

He murdered one of the largest Wolf packs called the Cook Pack in July of 2004.

As a result, throughout his career in Idaho he routinely ignored using
non lethal methods, Predator Friendly
Ranching, and Anatolian Shepard Dogs on the issue of Livestock Depredations
(All which were all proven through various research) :

He would constantly deny and refuse to use this research. He would lie as well:

As the body count rose, he would eventually be portrayed as a hero in 2005 in the greenwashing
book by Douglas Smith called Decade of the Wolf. It was a book that paraded the USFWS as heroes
when it failed to show after the reintroduction of Wolves, the disaster that Niemeyer and his ilk would
perpetuate.

He would be even portrayed as a hero with the 'best interest in mind for the Wolves' and their 'friend' from
the traitorous UK Wolf Trust who published this recently on their website:

A good friend of wolves, and of the UK Wolf Conservation Trust, Carter Niemeyer, Wolf Recovery Coordinator with the US Fish and Wildlife Service is retiring from US Government service after over 30 years of wild federal service.

We are hoping that Carter will come to speak at one of our seminars to recount some of his experiences while working for wolf recovery in the US. If his presentation the last time was anything to go by, it will be one that is extremely worthwhile attending.

Carter is a man who has done it. Some of his exploits may have been viewed as controversial but he always had the continued return of the wolf in mind.

We at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust wish him a long and happy retirement.

UK Wolf Trust obviously doesn't care what he once said about murdering Wolves:

"Killing is just one aspect of, of predator management and it's been time-tested over decades. Killing predators to me is the easiest thing we can do. We have the technology to kill predators very effectively and in great numbers. The society we live in today I think we owe society as managers the choices and that's why we or why I support non-lethal tools so that there are those individuals out there who ranch, raise livestock, that want to choose whether they want predators killed or not. So I think we just need to keep an open mind and and look at various solutions.

....Absolutely if you got an example of wolves for instance. Wolves are going to be killed. It's unavoidable that wolves are going to have to be managed and at some point if the recovery effort is as successful as it's been it's reasonable to assume that wolves will be harvested or culled through hunting and other harvest measures."

As a result, Niemeyer never really succeeded at bringing the Wolves back to the United States, or keeping them in harmony with Humans. In his five year career, he murdered hundreds of Wolves. He failed to promote non lethal methods, Predator Friendly Ranching practices (http://www.heartofthewolf.org/source.html)
and only sought murderous solutions that would promote murder in livestock depredation issues and fuel the fire for those who hate Wolves. His atrocities and corruption that he was a willing participant in are supported by UK Wolf Trust and Ralph Maughan, and Doug Smith.

I remember a quote from a book that came out the same year as Niemeyer took the throne of corruption and murder.
It is a quote that still rings true today since it applies to him directly.

'Although the ecological need for wolves is clear, the issue of reintroducing them into their former habitat is complex. The costs of reintroduction are both financial and ethical: under current reintroduction and management programs, wolves are heavily monitored, and are killed when humans deem it necessary. Is a heavily managed wolf still a wild wolf? Our ignorance and intolerance are still the primary threats to the wolf's existence. When our ancestors saw eyes glowing in the flicker of firelight, or shadows weaving in and out of the dark forest, they felt admiration, fear, respect, and awe. Once gone, the wolf cannot be replaced. Open your eyes, your mind, and your heart. We still have much to learn from the wolf.'
--Eva-Lena Rehnmark from Neither God nor Devil: Rethinking Our Perceptions of Wolves.

This quote talks about those such as Niemeyer, who heavily participated in the oppression of Wolves, from tracking them down to murdering them when he felt like it. His intolerance bred intolerance and still does to this very day. Niemeyer's activities and atrocities never resulted in the recovery of Wolves but making them into like caged animals. Making them creatures to be feared and hated and murdered. He murdered Wolves because it was the easiest thing to do, rather than making ethical choices.

Hopefully with the retirement of Niemeyer, Wolves in Idaho can finally get a second chance at life. Hopefully peaceful methods of co-existence with them will finally be promoted, and they can live without fear of being gunned down or ruled.

However, one must never forget the reign of terror that Niemeyer brought to the Wolves in Idaho.

And that he wasn't a hero, he was a monster.

Got some misguided comments already on this article! Which of course, I replied on.

Also, Ralph Maughan, a Wolf Murderer supporter, has written an article. An article which not only does he brown nose to Niemeyer, but claims conservationists, artists, and ranchers all uniting to praise him. Conservationists in the true sense don't praise him, and ranchers don't like him because they wanted Wolves killed whenever they want, and as far as artists, none have really come out to support Wolf Murderers, except for the Date Works Calendar.
