NATURE: WHITE FALCON/WHITE WOLF REVIEW

10/27/2008

This program that was on Sunday on PBS had to do with
many animals living past Canada in the Ellesmere Island.

The main animal species focused on are a pack of Arctic Wolves,
Gyrfalcons, as well as Snow Owls, Musk Ox, and Arctic Hares and
Foxes.

!!!PLOT SPOILER!!!

The Wolf part of the program had to do with a pack that was
forced to move on. They were unable to raise pups and a
the yearling female gets separated from her pack. Her
curiosity and wanting to play so much since she couldn't
mature since the pups died.

She struggles time and time again to get food and struggles
to find her family.

Though her family finds her by watching
over a ridge and happening to see her swiming in the same lake
after snow geese.

Her siblings welcome her back and the elders scold her,
but it is implied heavily in this program that the
young female will have her own pups someday.

The program ended with a happy ending for the Wolves
and the Falcons as well.

The program was great the only flaw was that the narrator
called the male Falcon a slacker. This wasn't exactly
true. The male Falcon raising it's children often
hunted alone. It didn't put up with it after a year
and forced the female to hunt as well. This was since
considering the female is bigger and stronger.

The male's point we think was cooperation in hunting
where both have to do their part. Though this
costed alot of deaths of their chicks the year before
at least the following year their nest had a successful
year of the program.

!!!PLOT SPOILER END!!!
