Wolf Games
In the past 15 years, games have started to positively portray Wolves. Here is a list of wonderful games that one should check out.
METAL GEAR SOLID 4
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for Playstation, which
is the ’last’ adventure of the main hero
Solid Snake touches on Wolves as well.
SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T PLAYED THE
GAME YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
After knocking out one of his adversaries,
Crying Wolf (of the Beauty and the Beast Unit),
in a battle at the abandoned Shadow Moses
Nuclear Storage Facility,
he finds out from one of his allies Drebin more
info about this character.
Not only did Solid Snake save the life
of Crying Wolf by just knocking her out
and not killing her, even though she
was a killing machine, he freed her from
her terrible past.
Crying Wolf was from Africa where ethnic cleansing
is rampant. She and her brother escaped
the slaughter until to escape her pursuers,
she accidentally killed her younger brother
by suffocating him to keep him from crying.
She was later rescued by government forces.
Though that didn’t help. That experienced
caused her to accidentally kill many people
in the area that she was transported to
once she was rescued.
Crying Wolf blamed Wolves for the slaughter.
Though this was partially because she was
driven insane by the trauma she suffered
and the realization she accidentally killed
her brother.
She eventually was brought into the Beauty
and the Beast Unit and used
by Solid Snake’s brother Liquid Ocelot, for
his schemes.
Unconscious where she was defeated, Crying
Wolf is taken in by the same Wolf Dogs that
were treasured by Sniper Wolf from Metal Gear Solid. This is despite the fact that Crying Wolf
blamed Wolves for the deaths of many people.
Otacon, Solid Snake’s partner in his operation,
to stop Liquid Snake worries about the fate of
the Wolf Dogs. Solid Snake tells him that they
will be fine since they prefer Nature rather
than the confines of man. And that since they
are watching over the gravesite of Sniper Wolf
that they are content.
Which shows itself since they are friendly
to Solid Snake this time around.
This an excellent game which is not to be missed.
Parental discretion advised.

OKAMI
Okami by Clover Studios was released in September 2006 in the U.S. and in Japan in April of 2006 for the PlayStation 2. The game is about the legendary Goddess from Shinto, Amaterasu, who is reborn in a Wolf form and must combat the evil that has taken over Ancient Japan. Wolf Amaterasu moves realistically like a Wolf and even has a predecessor in legend who also fought evil.
Taking heavily from Shinto mythos and Japanese culture, it is a thrill ride that is not to be missed. Later on in the game you also join forces with shape-shifting Wolf creatures. Clover Studios was shut down by Capcom even though the game was a moderate success to 're-organize their company and to improve financial gain'. But recently it has been reported that much of the staff of Clover is returning with a new development company called Seeds.
The newest version was released back in April for the Wii, however if you can, get ahold of the PS2 version. That one is the best version..some Best Buy retailers are selling it from what some of our members are telling us near the registers for a low price of $9.99 for new copies.
Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek

Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek was released back in June of 2007. It's plot is about Nancy Drew who goes to the Canadian mountains surrounding the Icicle Creek Lodge.
She is investigating a string of incidents. A Wolf is in the area, and may know the key
to the human caused problems in the area. Since the Wolf saves her life on more than one occasion, she knows she must work fast with the Wolf to find out who is causing all the problems in the area.
Rated 10 years old to Adult.

The Wii Version comes out December 2, 2008 and will be ported by SEGA.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: THE TWILIGHT PRINCESS
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was released in the U.S. in November of 2006. This game is about the hero Link who must save the world from the vicious Twilight forces. Link has the ability to become a Wolf in this installment. He later becomes a Werewolf since he can change from Wolf into Human form anytime. The game is definitely inspired by Okami with various themes that are similar to it. It's a great action game for being one of the first launch titles for the Nintendo Wii.
WEREWOLF: THE FORSAKEN
Werewolf the Forsaken (an Tabletop Role Playing Game), created by White Wolf, was released in March of 2005. It was a first to have a world that was created by a Wolf God. The game is about how the Wolf-God, Father Wolf, created the world. He also created the Werewolves as his children. Over time his powers began to weaken and he asked his children to kill him should he run out of his powers completely. They did so, but all the other dieties and other Werewolves branded these loyal creatures as traitors. Now in the present, these outcasted Werewolves called the Forsaken must restore balance to the world and fight off the forces of the genocidal Pure, and other forces that are more sinister. Boasting a variety of themes such as the USFWS excecs and ranchers causing problems for the wild (not those who obviously support nature and PF Ranching and Non-Lethal Methods) in Territories and even talking about actual facts about Wolves in the source book Blood of the Wolves, it is a series that is not to be missed.
WEREWOLF: THE APOCALYPSE
Werewolf the Apocalypse, the predecessor to Werewolf the Forsaken, was released in 1991. It was the first major game to deal with the issues of Ecological Devastation, Human Rights and other themes like Child Abuse. The series was about Werewolves who were in charge with saving the Earth from the impending Apocalypse. This was by fighting against the demonic forces of the Wyrm, and the Wyrm's captor, the Weaver. The game also had other shapeshifters and was heavily influenced by many human cultures and real issues.
The series first helmed by Bill Bridges and later Ethan Skemp, lasted for 12 successful years and ended with the excellent book, The Last Battle.
ARASHI NO YORUNI (STORMY NIGHT)
Arashi no Yoruni (Eng. name Stormy Night), the game, is based on the hit anime film. The game is about a Wolf named Gabu, and a Goat named Mei and their adventures. It came out December of 2005 when the film was released. It follows the film very well and has great gameplay. It has a puzzle challenge, a level with Gabu and Mei (like in a platform game), a race, a level where you have to find Gabu, an rpg quest with Mei, and finally a level where Gabu must escape. It's a great game for all ages. Note, you must know Japanese to undestand the dialogue in the cutscences.
DIABLO II WARCHEST

Diablo II Warchest came out in 2003. It's an Action RPG made by Blizzard (who made the smash hit World of Warcraft) that you fight the forces of Hell. One of the newer classes that they added in the expansion, Lords of Destruction, is the Druid, who can summon Spirit and Dire Wolves to aid him in battle. The Druid can even change into a Werewolf to combat his foes. With many hours to play this game, it is one you don't want to miss. The sequel comes out soon. Hopefully the Druid will once again be playable.
Rated M for mature.
METAL GEAR SOLID
In 1997, the blockbuster hit Metal Gear Solid hit stores in the U.S. In this game, the mercenary Solid Snake is called back to duty from retirement to stop a group of terrorists from launching a nuke. This series positively portrays Wolves.
SPOILER ALERT!
In particular the character Sniper Wolf raises Wolf-Dogs at the base Snake has to infiltrate. Snake tells Sniper Wolf on her deathbed that she is honorable like a Wolf and explains how many cultures have positive regard for Wolves though language and ideas. Such as how with the Yupik, the word for wolf is "Kegluneq", and how the Aleuts revere them as honorable cousins. The remake in 2004 for the Nintendo Gamecube (called Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes) added a few extra scenes such as Sniper Wolf's Wolf-Dogs howl when she dies and a real Wolf is shown in the credits at the end of the game.
This series has been successful with one hit after another since 1987. There are many themes in this series from genetics, the environment and of course anti-nuke themes. Shadow governments as well as corporations dictating battlefields show up too and even the Cold War is portrayed in the third Metal Gear Solid. The final entry with Solid Snake comes out this fall for the PS3.
