Apparently the the main official for the Okinawa Zoo are getting so frightened of the issue that he is going to elementary schools to quell the uprising. The city officials that the zoo is in are getting more afraid of the truth. That means we have to keep pressuring and persisting. We have more than 4 years to do this. So keep it up!

Hello Everyone,
Good news all! The zoo and city are getting rattled with the campaign. In addition to all those writing from overseas, the children here at a couple elementary schools have been sending letters to the zoo director. It has irked him so much that he is going to visit the school to try and talk the school out of stopping their campaign. It is so important that we keep getting snail mail rolling in. Please, try to get as many kids as possible to write. The addresses for the zoo and the city mayor can be found on the message board through www.okinawazap.com . But please, do not think that kids can do this alone. They need to continue to see that the adult population is also appalled at their refusal to let Kei go.
Again, this is really good news. We need to rachet it up even more to frustrate them more. We have to fill their offices with mail -- e-mail and snail mail. It is not like he is going to be able to run around to all the schools all over this island and the world. So please write and enlist schools to write also.

Kei at Okinawa Zoo

Dear Everyone,
There is a North American Timber Wolf named Kei that languishes in a zoo on the far side of the Pacific. In Okinawa, Japan, at the Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni Zoo, you will find a wolf that has lingered on a concrete slab of 7meters X5 meters for the whole 16 years of her life. It is a disgrace that an animal which has symbolized a part of North America`s frontier heritage should be forced to live out her entire existence as such. It would also be a disgrace that once her plight has been made known, no one comes to her aid.
Before continuing to read this message, please take a look at a picture of Kei and read a recent media piece on her that has been helping our movement grow.

My wife and I have began an effort to have her retired to a wolf sanctuary in Colorado at Mission Wolf, run by Kent Weber. He has already agreed to accept her and give her a large naturalized enclosure to live in, provided we can win her release and transport her there. Innitially the zoo was open to the idea but when it looked like it was really going to happen they changed their mind, citing that since Kei was born in the zoo she should therefore die in one. They seem to think of her as a pet without her having the needs of her species. They also feel it is very important that the kids of Okinawa take advantage of the last one or two years left in which they will have the opportunity to see a live wolf. It`s a selfish callousness beyond belief that they feel it perfectly ok to exploit this creature to the last energy of her life.
I asked Mr. Earle Bingley if he would join me in this campaign to help free Kei, which in reality is a Canadian Timber Wolf. He has agreed whole heartedly and gave me permission to address those of his list. For that I am very greatful. It is so important that this campaign spread throughout the world with others offering to spread the word and to write letters and send e-mails demanding Kei`s release so that she may experience a retirement with dignity.
Would you please respond to this message telling me that you support this noble cause so that I may ask you for your support one by one and keep you updated on our progress. Quite frankly, we need you badly. Your help will decide our progress.

No, the zoo isn`t releasing her.
But I had Rika go there today to get more pics of her and 30 sec digital movies of her. Will try to find a way to get them posted up soon.
But Rika also looked more closely at her plack. She is NOT 16 yrs old like the zoo had told us in their office at the meetings.
SHE IS 12 years old!
That is such great news because at that age I feel she has a high probable chance of surviving the flight. It also means that once she gets back she would most definitely have at least 2 years of a peaceful life of retirement. Some wolves at sanctuaries live to 18. So in effect we could possible give her 6 years of retirement. That is 1/3 of her life saved!
It makes me want to work much harder to get her release.
It is not in vain because she does have some quality time for a life of peace left.
So, today was very good news!
